Ok, This is going on, this assembly drawing and model was created in Solidwoks 2006, update and save on each version of Solidworks and the SLDDRW file was under 10 meg. Now I had to get into the model to make some changes and now the file is over 86 meg. What going on? is there a way to purge the file or reduce the file size? A second model and drawing just like the first model and drawing with more parts and the SLDDRW file is 12 meg.

Have you tried to do a Save As Copy. This will sometimes get rid of any junk in a file.
Cheers,
Anna
I used to use a variation of Anna's method, I would 'save as' to a different file location. Then cut/paste the new/shrunk file over the large/old file. This also worked best if only the drawing file was open. Works for part and assembly files also.
2009 seems to be better for drawing file sizes, parts and assemblies I can still shrink with the above method.
What is SWP file? How do I use it?
I have not played with API or macros in SW so I might needs some help.
Stash that file somewhere that you can find. Then in SW, turn on the Macros toolbar, hit the big green Run Macro button, and point to that file.

CAUTION: I just tried this macro, it messed up all of the equations in my part file. Blown up and unusable now. Luckily it was a backup I was using for testing. 2011 SP5, x64
I have seen this issue before with the exact same situation, and we fixed it by changing the image quality under tools -> options-> Document properties-> Image quality. Try de-selecting the "optimize edge length" box then do a save as. By doing this i have seen positive results.
I hope this helps!

I also am having a issue with a file that has grown to 1.3Gbs. When I export to a parasolid it an import it back in it is only 3mb .
It takes forever while it is autosaving, it will not save when closing, it can only be saved as, the appearance cannot be changed. Well maybe it can but after letting it work on it for 4hrs I just closed the program.
Its a pretty complex model that I hate to rebuild, Would love to find a solution.
Oh yeah I am on 2011 64bit SP2
