I've been modifying a library of pipe fittings to suit our
needs and I'm trying to get the library sorted so that we're ready
for use.
The library arrived with separate parts for different sizes but they each had a design table.
I've merged the parts together with the intention of using drag & drop and having the flexibility of changing the route diameter but the file size for each part has changed from around 500-600KB to 3-3.5MB.
Any ideas if this will be a problem. Is this pretty normal? I'm wondering if the parts are separate for a reason.

No, you have done the right thing. File sizes do grow when configurations are added but generally there is no ill affect. It is obviously slower to load a larger file but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
What I would say is that after taking a safe copy of the files (somewhere not in your usual Solidworks area, preferrably in a zip file). Delete any configurations that you don't plan to use, this will keep the file sizes down and also lists when selecting configs will be shorter etc.
