To assist in the field assembly of sheetmetal panels, we
employ "floating-nut plates" that are riveted in place. I've
modeled the nut-plate as a two-piece assembly. This assembly is
then mated to a plate with the "solve as flexible" option selected.
I would like the nut to actually float within a specified envelope
as defined by the nut-plate. Is there a mate that would do this? I
was thinking of something like an axis-to-axis concentric
constraint with a distance offset, but obviously, this does not
work.

Correct Answer
You're close - you can use a Limit Distance mate between the
axis of the hole and the axis of the nut. Upper limit is your
maximum movement amount, and the lower limit is 0. Click
View->Temporary Axes to view the automatically-created axis of
any cylindrical surface.
