Though I am not a Analysis expert, still i can tell that when ever u are comparing the result of static & buckling, 1st compare the factor of safety of duo.
if the factor of safety of static is less than the buckling then the rod 1st yield after that it may buckle.
but if buclking factor is less than static factor of safety, then the rod 1st buckles.
so 1st you have to find out which stress is developing upon your rod. If buckling stress is going to develop then you have to consider buckling stress. otherwise yield stress.
