Is there a way to make solidworks default to a custom material list?
We have our own material list for materials we use. But when you edit materials on a new part it defaults to the "Solidworks materials" list. So you have to close it and drill down the list to the custom list.... it's an annoyance but a pain none the less.

I am sure there is a way to default to your folder but I don't remember what it is. However if you have several that you commonly use you can add them to your Favorites. Right Click on the material and scroll down to "Manage Favorites" as seen below. Then open the custom materials and select a commonly used material. Right Click on the material and select "Add to Favorites" then you can move it up or down your favorite list as desired.
If you save your part template with a material already assigned (from whatever folder you wish), then when you hit "Edit Material" it will be sitting in that custom folder.
Well we do use the Favorites with the most commonly used materials and that is fine most of the time.
It's just a minor pain to have to scroll to the bottom of the list of material libraries to get to what I really need.
Most of what is in the solidworks default materials list have naming convention we do not use.
So we have to use our custom database to meet our internal standards.

System options, File Locations, material Databases, then delete/add as needed, move them up/down in list for priority. Restart SW
I don't think so, but I've got something better. You can save "Favorites" that will appear as soon as you right-click on Material in the tree. You can choose from them there instead of going to "Edit Material".
