I am trying to create a simulation that includes a chain that will hang naturally. I have tried to create contact sets with no penetration and have had no luck. Is there anyway this is possible?

I would like to simulate the effects of various weight on a crane hoist assembly.

Yes on the whole assembly. I am only trying to determine the travel of the linkage upwards if only three of the arms are connected to a load.

I would simplify by removing the linkage and add the load directly to the attachments.
OK, I'll take a stab at this. I don't believe you will easily have any success whatsoever given normal surfaces, etc. However, you may get something meaningful IF you make every link have a pre-defined surface area in contact with the connecting link. (Remember that a point load produces infinite stress.)
Then if you use contact sets between those *matching* surfaces you might get something realistic or at least closer to reality. (Note: by 'matching' I mean something like flat-to-flat or a curved surface to a matching curved surface.)
