Hi,
Does anyone know if SolidWorks can automatically add front, right, and bottom view labels in drawing based on the models orientation?
See the attached image with the labels.

To edit your template the way John is mentioning, you would insert a "predefined" view in your drawing:
This will create an empty front view. Then create the proper projected views off of that.
Then save your drawing as a template.
When you want to create a drawing of your part, use the template and "bam!" "Job's Done"
Automatic. I do not respect this word. You set things up correctly once and utilize it thereafter. How automatic is that?
Any view can be Projected to its associated orthographic children views. Projected View in View Layout.
You can get a Standard 3 View with that tool by that name.
You can establish the exact views you want in a drawing template and it will populate once a model is inserted.
All of the above and more. Views are created easily.
You want labels? Make labels.
You want labels automatically present in named views? Put that in your template. You manually did it once then saved it to be automatic forevermore when choosing that drawing template.
I know how to insert standard views, I was more interested in whether I could get a label displaying the proper view orientation to populate when I insert a view.
Fine work as usual Dan . Saved me some time there and oddly enough those are the settings that never seem to work for me … LOL
I've been told having an ANSI-Modified within my settings is the death knell but IDK ...
Yes and no … If you RMB click the view you can select "Add View Label" with varying results … I do not believe you can have it add a label automatically. There are options for it to do so but honestly they have never worked for me.
The biggest issue I've found is the name itself IMHO. If you go by the SW View Palette (Front/Back/Right/Left) there does not seem to be a way to have the view populate with that naming system. What it names with is the view name in the Command Manager.
Jacob Cadwell - Yes " IF " you setup your drawing Templates with predetermined views. Our templates have all the different predetermined views and all we do is drag and drop from File Explorer. You will need to adjust the Scale after input..
