When I import a STEP file PCB assembly several components disappear when I save it. Also it complains of empty sketches, dozens of them, asking me to delete them during the save.
If I choose 'Yes' and delete them some parts are missing.
Should I choose 'No', and save the assembly without deleting the empty sketches, virtually the all the parts disappear.
If I open the STEP in E-Drawing no problems are seen. Every part is visible.
I checked my templates and the Part template opens automatically into an empty sketch. I presume that this is normal, in the same way that SW begins New Assemblies or New Drawing by opening an explorer so that you can select the parts to include in your Assembly/Drawing. Of course when I close the empty sketch in the New Part template it sat there as an empty sketch, so I delete this and saved this as the Part Template. I then closed SW and reopened a New Part, low and behold it begins in an empty sketch. Next I opened one of the STEP files I have an issue with and when I save this as a SW Assy dozens of popups appear complaining of Empty sketches, even though I deleted the empty sketch in the template.

no, it is not normal. It's a setting in SWX' System Options wich should be de-activated:
..could be your template(s)? (unsaved sketch?)
..try a test.. open a simple assembly and saveas STEP.. now open that STEP... same problems?... if so.. your templates may have a unsaved sketch?
