THICKEN FEATURE in SURFACES

Hi,

I created this sofa using 4 surface bodies.. I already thicken one surface body but it only thickened for 0.5 mm.. When I increase the value error occurs saying unable to thicken

Also, I tried to thick "Surface - knit 161" & "Mirror2" surface bodies.. when I trying the thicken feature, an error occurred which saying "Failed to offset or face could not be detected"...

Please help me with this thing, I'm an absolute beginner in surfacing ...

I attached the part file which was created using Solidworks 2020 Students edition....

Correct Answer

it's bcuz of Surface-Fill5,... the knit will be non-manifold.. so, remove Surface-Fill5 and/also Surface-Fill4 for the whole (mustache) to knit into one manifold body. (image)

...always check your min curvature... this helps you determine if you can/cannot thicken.... and I'm surprised it allow you to thicken.

One more thing, why Solidworks doesn't allow me to knit all the surface knits together?

When I try to knit "Surface - Knit 159" and "surface - Knit 161" an error occurred...

Paul, I have written many times that the minimum radius of curvature does not always limit the possibility of thickening the surface. Even though SW Cop. says otherwise.

yah,... it is not a absolute certain.. shell seems to be tolerant in some cases (or luck) such as using a solid body (not surface thicken).. but in general, the MROC is important to note.
