Smoothing Variable Radius Fillet on 'Peak'

Hi everyone. Working on a thinline brace assembly for a guitar model and need your help smoothing edges out. Please see the attached .stp file and the image below.

Part Features:

1. Extruded Sketch

2. Asymmetric Chamfer at Peak

3. .06" fillet at chamfer

4. Variable Radius Fillet across entire body

Goal: Need to smooth out where the red line is, preferably within the variable radius fillet command. Peak should be completely retained (no rounding on top).

Notes: Please no surfacing.

Any suggestions on how to do this? Should I take out Step 3?

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your help and those who commented with solutions. I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong. For one, the variable fillet had tangent propagation turned on which made the solution more complicated. For two, I needed to take out the chamfer command which was also making it more complicated. It did require a bit of playing around with the radius dims (the larger 1" radius is what I needed). Here's a picture of my solution.

Hi Kara, you're going to at least need to split the faces so you have some control over the fillets. Why no surfacing? This is actually a good way to get into some simple surfacing solutions.

Hi John - thank you for the recommendation. I am just not very familiar with surface tools. Any command suggestions you have for surfacing would be greatly appreciated.

No problem, it can be a little daunting to deal with surfacing, but once you start you'll find that the features you can create will really expand your SOLIDWORKS vocabulary. Start small, surfacing doesn't have to mean swoopy organic shapes. A solid body is just a filled surface...I can't download the model at this moment but if I had to guess the order would be to split the faces off to where you want them to terminate, then delete the faces. This will turn your solid into a surface body. Then build the surface back in. This is were the decisions can make it daunting. There are ton of how to's on MySolidworks that might help. I'd try a boundary surface with a single guide curve (probably greek to you right now) but watch a few videos and get familiar with the terms a basics. Then once you have a surface built in, you'll knit them together and form the solid. This will open up many paths to creating more interesting geometry. If you're dealing with guitars it will probably come in handy! I might be able to get to it later but I'm sure there are other folks out there willing to help sooner!

Thanks John! Yes, I deal with a ton of small parts and I've been able to get by without looking too much into it! But thanks for the link & info, I will check those out. I'm always worried that surface geometry does not transfer well to machinists. We do want to outsource this to a pretty decent wood machining supplier, so I need to just ask them if the geometry works or doesn't.

I do not know what you mean by this. Surfacing is a means to get solid final result with organic shape.

When you can't use fillet on you model, there needs to find other alternative. Surfacing might be a choice for what you asked

I'm not exactly sure what the angle is that I'm looking at, but the bottom edge needs to be completely straight. There's a protrusion on this. It also looks like the top radius was rounded over - I need that to remain a sharp peak. Can you send a bigger picture of this area?
