Can't move part inside an assembly

Hello all,
I'm having a problem moving/rotating a part that I've just inserted into my assembly, which contains parts and assemblies. Previous parts/assemblies can be moved. The part is not fixed or constrainted in any way. If I re-open the file, everything works as it should.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem?

I sometimes get unconstrained parts in assemblies that I cannot drag
Are you dragging or right clicking and using "Move" or "Move with Triad"?

I usually just start adding mates and that will allow the part to me moved.

  It doesn't matter if I'm right clicking or using the other methods you mentioned. But it the part can be moved if I add a mate as you suggested. Nevertheless it is a strange bug.

I sounds like you have a sub-assembly inside of a higher level assembly. If this is the case, go to the properties of your sub-assembly, and in the bottom right corner of the properties box is an option to "Solve as" and make it Flexible.

  Hey Randy, it helped me. I had to go to every level in my top assembly in order to fix it. Now I know why my Man Lift and my Back-Hoe designs wouldn't move properly.

    There's an easier way to make sub-assemblies Flexible since that Reply was posted. See I inserted my movable Assembly into another Assembly and now it won’t move. What happened?

Does this happen regularly, or only on some assemblies?

If sometimes, is it only with large assemblies? I have had the same issue from time to time, seems to happen with larger assemblies pushing the 1.5-ish gig limit on memory. I find if I isolate the component in question and the part(s) it needs to mate to that things work better.

  Is the part fixed? They will be an (F) by the part in the tree. This happened to the first part when you insert it.

    Also, you can right click on the sub assembly and edit the properties to make the sub assembly flexible. This will allow it to move based on the sub assembly constraints.

      I'm having the same problem, when a limit-mate (or more than one) is active in the assembly. When I suppress the limit mate(s) I am able to move the newly inserted part or subassembly, after that I can unsuppress the limitmate and everything functions as supposed to.
      
      I believe that this is a reported issue that is being fixed.....

Couple of users at my place reported the same issue. We have to close the assembly and start again if we have to move the part.

Did you get any solution or cause?

I have the same issue with unmovable parts that are draged into an assembly with flexable sub assemblys.

Adding mates solves the problem.

This only happens ocasionally and other inserted parts move freely.

It's got to be a bug.

My specs are in my profile.

I just recently had this problem. I deleted the sub-assembly, turned perspective off and then re-inerted the sub-assembly. Seems to work as normal now. Wondering if anyone else can verify this? Best, Matt

  Is this fixed already, or did somebody has a workaround for this?
  I am also in a large assembly and when I unsuppress a single part it is completely locked in place; all mates are suppressed and when I right click on it, I have the option to fix it ( so I guess it must be floating), but when I unsuppress a mate, the part can be moved.
  
  Another problem I have with large assemblies is that SW does not rememeber when a sub assy is flexible in which configuration, I just keep on changing this eveytime I open the assembly, very annoying.

Go to System Options, Assemblies and un-check 'Move components by dragging'.
Hit OK, then go back and re-check it again, then hit OK.
This worked for me, it just needed to be cycled to get it working again.

I've seen this behavior in some of the assemblies which I believe caused by mate errors from other parts
Can you check to see if there are some mate errors in the assembly? suppress or fix them to see if you can move/rotate part you just insert?
