Is there a way in Solidworks 2017 to explode a multi-body part in an exploded view of an assembly?
I cannot use the "reuse subassembly explode" button since it is a part, not an assembly. And also I found a solution but it only works in solidworks 2020 where there is a "from part" button under options but it is not present in solidworks 2017.

Another approach would be to add a derived configuration for each body.
Then, in the master configuration, insert a Delete Body feature for each body. Now suppress them all.
Then, in each each derived configuration, unsuppress the Delete Body feature for that body.
Finally create a new assembly and import the master part as many times as you have bodies.
Now you can do your explosion.
I faced the same problem in SOLIDWORKS 2018. In that case, I made the subassembly FLEXIBLE and moved the parts individually selecting from the feature manager shown down in the animation section (not the main feature manager). This worked for me. Try it selecting individually and move it.
That feature wasn't available in earlier versions, as you've found. As far as I know the best option for you will be to create a new configuration and use the "Move/Copy Bodies" function to move the bodies as desired.
