weldment corner treatment gap

I use weldments to create non-welded extruded aluminum structures.  I would like to use corner treatments and weld gaps to have gaps on both members at a corner to permit a separate joint be inserted, without needing extra sketch segments or trim/extend to create these gaps.  Is this possible?

What I get with a weld gap

What I want to get

Another issue I'm having is that when I used slotted extrusion, even without using coped cuts, the profiles extend into the slots of other members.  From other threads I've found this isn't really fixable, but its worth asking as an aside in case I'm wrong.  Anyone know a fix for this without needing trim/extend?

Thanks
