I want to be able to create my sketch line offset on the correct side of an existing line. How do I make sure it offsets on the side I want each and every time?
Just click on the side that you want it to go..
As John said, if it's on the wrong side just click on the other side of the parent lines. That will move them to that side and close the command.
I can do that. Is there a quick way to delete that first line that is on the wrong side?
I believe the problem that you have is when mirroring a line in a sketch and then wanting to thin extrude it, the mirrored line offset-extrudes to the un-intended side? If this is the problem you are having see here. Remember that lines (and other geometric sketch entities) have "direction" built into them and invisible to the SW user. But it is easy to overcome if you understand this. Another trick I have is when I have dis-separate sketch entities to thin extrude, is the connect them together with a construction line, or a regular geometric line (this will set the offset direction uniformly between them) and then when thin extruding them use the contours option to pick only the sketch entities to extrude.
slow the heck down and pay attention to what your doing.
read the feature manager side and then pick the right options.
pin it if your after multiple offsets.
the pick and click on the side that you want it to go on.
If the lines that you are trying to offset aren't connected in a chain, then my advice is to do each chain as a separate step.
