New Solidworks student here with a 10-second question:
Some annotation lines are dim/faded. Why? Is this a problem? How do I unfade them?

it‘s not a problem, it‘s an information. The grey dims are added on the drawing while the black one comes from the model and can be used to change the models size.
Create a layer structure and assign the elements to the layers and you‘ll be fine.
Just to expand on Heiko's suggestion.
You can make certain types of annotation, dimensions for example, be automatically to added to a certain layer. Find the relevant annotation type in 'Document Properties' and set it to the required layer. Then make sure that your layer setting is set to 'Per Standard'.

Wher do you find that toolbar?
RMB(Right Mouse Button) on any button (fi. in the commandmanager ) and switch toolbar "Layer" on. You can drag it where you like.
