Hey All,
The company I work for has multiple site locations, which means we have to have multiple Vaults if we do not want to have to wait an ungodly amount of time to pull files across site, using the WAN.
Here is my question.
Like I was saying earlier, we have multiple sites, using multiple vaults. Two sites uses Alpha Rev scheme, the other two use Numeric.
--One concern I have is the use of file sharing between vaults. I do not believe Rev history will transfer back and forth, even if the vaults have the same Scheme or not. (Please comment on, or give ideas.)
--Another is, at times we will have individuals from one site working on another sites files, hence, long opening times. (Please comment on, or give ideas.)
These are the two main issues I can think of, if anyone can think of any other issues that I am missing, PLEASE, suggest it.
Thanks

You can point PDMWorks add-in to look at diffrent servers, so if you know which parts go in which servers you can just add all 4 to the server list and if you are working on a file that is on a remote server the downlaod/upload will be slow but you will still have access to it.
I you are loading the same parts into both servers then you will run into a problem with a rev getting updated in one and not the other. With Workgroup there isn't a way around this becuase vault mirroring is the fundimental diffrence between workgroup and enterprise.
you have 2 sites using one revision scheme and 2 sites using another revision scheme.
that alone says you are "NOT CONCERNED".
workgroup works locally, all you are doing is "coping" files across the WAN not opening.
upgrade to a system that has synchronization abilities, like DBWorks or PDMWE.
I can see that you are concerned about the different rev schemes. If you were not, there would be no reason to ask the question. In our case, the 2 vaults with their different rev schemes, exist because of a product-growth oriented acquisition. I know we should tackle the merging problem but time has been too short compared with the work being done. I am concerned also.
Here is a blog post I wrote about multiple Workgroup Vaults.
