How to go from a multibody part to an assembly without failures?

I started new as an engineer at a startup and got the CAD files handed over without further explanation, because my predecessor already left. He worked a lot with multibody parts, which I never used before. So I want to get all parts seperately to work on the different parts individually.

I already know that you can do the save bodies feature to get all the parts and that works. But always with issues.

First of all I get the error for every part to update cosmetics threads in the multibody parte, which I tried but didn't work.

The second thing is that the multibody part dissappears when I do save bodies. When I disable the feature it appears again. Can anyone help me with this?

I work with multi-body Parts often. Right now I'm working on one with 41 (so far), though mine usually have considerably fewer. I rarely separate them into individual Part files, and have no plans to do so with this one. Are you sure you need to?

  I agree with Glenn Schroeder and i mostly use same technique as he is.
  If i REALLY need assembly i use save bodies (with consume cut bodies unchecked)
  
  Also i saw somewhere another good enough technique (for me ) if you want to save cosmetic thread , or sheet metal data where you use insert part in part and use keep-delete/body feature to keep bodies . All your bodies will update accordingly to master model (your multibody part) and you can make assembly like standard procedure.

That is normal behaviour when using Save Bodies.
If you want both the assembly and the multibody part for future reference , you can make an additional configuration and suppress the save bodeis feature there. The assembly will still refer to your first configuration.
But be aware, test carefully to know it's limits. It's easy to forget about it. I personally don't like to maintain both.

As Glenn already wondered, is it really neccessary to go to assemblies? Multi body has good user cases. fi. getting to count the same bodies in a cutlist...

I am not really familiar with cosmetic thread so cant comment much on your first issue

As for your second issue where the multibody part disappear, do you by chance select "Consume Cut Body" when you perform save body?

  I had a look into that and that really helped. It is not disappearing anymore. The cosmetic thread problem stays.

Basically, try different options in save body to see which one you want.

When I need to make an Assembly from Multibody parts I use "Insert into New part"
You then have the option with External references to keep or break depending if you want to keep the multibody part as a master model.
It can be a bit painful if they are are a large number of part in the multibodies, but it does allow some more options in how you handle the parts
I'm going to be the voice of reason (or at least a counterpoint) when it comes to Multibodies! If it is more than 5-10parts then it should be an Assembly

Unchecked consume cut bodies helped with my first problem. The second one stays.

The thing is, it is a rather complex object I'm working one with lot of parts that get assembled and need to be manufactured differently, so I don't really see the advantage in working with multibody parts here.

Also I'm very new to this concept of design and don't really see why I should prefer this to an assembly.

But thanks to all, who have answered. Helps me a lot.
