I am trying to route piping for a design that uses fittings and valves that are not in the design library (Swagelok). I was told that it was possible (presumably to save the time of adding these parts to the design library). I would normally just design my own pipes and do it the hard way, but every pipe or bend would need to be put into PDM, which would add clutter and time to the process. Is there an easy way to do this?
Jordan,
Yes, it is possible. If you don't need the fittings to show up in the BOM then it's just dropping them in and working towards them. If you do need them in the BOM then you'll have to add the needed custom properties.
In general tho' you're better of in the long run to indeed jump through the hoops and make them actual routing fittings, as in putting in CP's, RP's, Axis, Design tables, etc.
Having said that, in a pinch I have used 'dumb' fittings myself by just adding them to the assemble like one would any other part into any other ASM.
If you haven't got any training in Routing I would highly suggest that you get some. Trying tutorials, looking at youtubes and such will help a bit but if at all possible get a training session from your VAR. Even if they are utterly clueless about it themselves you'll still be able to pick up some basic understanding of the Routing product.
