I just went from a desktop to a laptop, & one issue I'm having is that when I use the file print option, & choose Adobe Pdf, it prints out a text file instead. Has anyone had this issue? Is it a Solidworks setting, or maybe a adobe problem?

Yes, when I access previous pdf's in our system network etc, (not much is printed to the laptop itself), I see them as pdfs. I can us the Microsoft print to pdf, but for some reason it omits the name, so you have to type a name in each time. Adobe, always input the name of the drawing automatically.

Use Save As>PDF from SW.

Yeah that seems to do the trick! One thing I've noticed with this though is if you're printing a group of pdf's that you want to go into a particular folder the next print wants to go there, but when you use the save as, it seems to want to take you to the cad folder, so it can be quite a bit more moving around folders etc. I noticed that my old system had Acrobat Reader DC, Adobe Acrobat Distiller X, & Adobe Acrobat X Standard. The new laptop just has Acrobat Reader DC. Perhaps I need to try to get those additional software on the system.

I added the additional software, but it still wants to create the text files??? I think that corrected a similar problem in the past.

Found what worked in this case so I thought I'd post it. I needed to uncheck this box. So print to pdf, then properties, then settings, then make sure that box isn't checked.

Does anyone know how to preset the pdm setting so that it always comes up with that particular box unchecked? I have to often remember to uncheck it when I go to print the pdf.

Print to PDF (Windows)
Open a file in a Windows application.
Choose File > Print.
Choose Adobe PDF as the printer in the Print dialog box. To customize the Adobe PDF printer setting, click the Properties (or Preferences) button
Click Print. Type a name for your file, and click Save.

the print to PDF is not run by SW - it is using whatever PDF generator is on the laptop.
