I am working with an "L" shaped structure. I am drawing the structure on 11x17 landscape. I need a detail view on a separate page. Unfortunately Solidworks can't rotate the detail view that allows me to present the largest image on the drawing. It would be super handy to be able to rotate the detail view on the drawing. Looks like I'm stuck rotating the Sheet instead.
Maybe a section that doesn't actually cut the part could fit the bill.
Rotating the detail view independent of the original view seems like it would confuse someone.
If you absolutely want to do this, just make a custom view of the model (NOT A ROTATED DRAWING VIEW) oriented the way you want. Put a view of this model view on your second sheet, move it outside the sheet border and make a detail view of that. Use dimensions for the detail sketches to ensure the two detail views are identically sized and positioned. Use the same letter as the detail view on the first sheet. On the first sheet, hide the original detail view. On the second sheet hide the parent view.
Jim, your solution works. It's just not very elegant, no offence intended.
Is rotating the parent view not an option? Having one rotated and one not would surely lead to confusion.
Sorry no, not an option. As for confusion...don't worry, I have a plan. I should have also mentioned that the drawing is actually an assembly drawing, and the assembly fits together like a puzzle.

Add an enlarged cropped view and rotate that.
Insert a view label and add to this the rotation angle & direction.
On the parent view, draw a fake detail profile.
