I try to model this shape:
Attached STEP file
Need advice to model solid as first picture.
I see no problem at all.
- create 2 sketches on Front and Top with one Ellipse each
- split the ellipses into halves
- use the Boundary Boss feature for volume creation
- use the SelectionManager for selcting only the halves
- set the Close Surface Option
Sorry Heiko, but your solution give wrong geometry. On second ellipse axis shape is not equal with regular ellipse
This way is more correct:
Of course is possible mahe it in one Loft feature all Boby, but I just show way (only one from much more)
I can't see any mismatch at my site (on my model)...:
I've attached my model in parasolid format for you.
Draw ellipse 2 on 3-th plane with equal height to ellipse 1. And check section cut.
I can't open your file but I make model oo your way and result is not correct. Not correct for me. In my opinion shapes on both axes " mine ellipse" must be also ellipse. In my case this not work as you see bellow:
In my solution also diagonal cut section create regular ellipse:
Ah, there it is!
Okay, you are right. I ended up adding a 3rd ellipse for the 2nd direction of the boundary feature.
Should be a proper result now...
Heiko, Check also diagonal cut. I suppose that error still remained. Its result of surface creation metod. But maybe I'm wrong
Strange. I cant open Parasolid file. Maybe my SW use old kernel?
I was wondering if squashing a sphere would work?
When I cut the resulting body and sketch an ellipse it looks very close.
What do you think?
Great idea Rob ! Yes, it looks very close but... small different. Very small! Shapes on main planes is exactly the same. But it is most faster solution!

I think it makes sense.
Is it ellipse or oval? For me looking more like oval.
