API AddDimension2 between two points always skew

I have been attempting to dimension a point in the first quadrant to the origin and invariably get the straight line distance. How can the direction or sense, horizontal, vertical, etc,of the dimension line be controlled? I am using SW2017 so the glories of AddSpecificDimension are unavailable.
