terminating mesh takes a long time
I agree that after you click on the 'Cancel' button in the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Mesh Progress dialog, it should take no more than a second or two for mesh termination to complete and for the User Interface (UI) to become responsive again.
The following SPR exists for this:
SPR 863410 - "SOLIDWORKS Simulation - Mesh: When canceling a mesh, allow the mesh termination to take place in the background so that customers can continue in other areas of the program"
The good news is that the SOLIDWORKS Simulation R&D team significantly improved the UI response time for a mesh cancel command in SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2020.
If you notice that it's still taking longer than acceptable in SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2020, please be sure to contact your SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller (VAR) to report this. To get the most efficient help possible, send your VAR a SOLIDWORKS Rx Problem Capture with video that shows the behavior as well as your model files with the study where you see the issue. Depending on model geometry, mesh settings, etc. there could still be cases for which R&D can make further code improvements.
The problem still exists in 2020 SP3. I cancelled the mesh creation and it has been 30+ seconds.
It was in the 3 minute range and I opened the Task Manager to kill it. As soon as the task manager window popped up, the mesh creation finally terminated. I don't know if those actions were related or if it was just a coincidence of timing.
