company still working with 2017. Can I download 2020 without replacing 2017?
Yes you can. I've done this with 2018 & 2019, however please be aware it will take up twice the hard drive space.
Yes, you need to install into different folders.
You need to put all project, templates, toolbox, macros into different folders for 2017 and 2020.
Not a simple task. If you open a 2017 file and save it, you cannot go back.
I'm have installed and using 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020.
Currently have both 2019 and 2020 open.

Don't upgrade your Toolbox, create a new one.
Unless you have customized Toolbox.
Copy the Solidworks Data and rename to "Solidworks Data 2020".
You'll need to check and change all File Locations.
Everything need to be separate.
