I am using SW2017, SP4.1
I need to create a bracket and stud assembly and would like to import a sketch from .dwg for the bracket. Is there a way to do this in the assembly environment like there is in the part?

Hi,
I've done this in the past.
You need to open the sketch in Autocad select all copy or CTRL-C and then go into a Solidworks part (start a sketch and CTRL-V) or drawing (pick a place and CTRL-V) as it works with both. Note: the origin or 0,0,0 point in Autocad will be the same as the Origin in Solidworks, although it will sometimes flip depending on side of the plane logic Solidworks comes up with.

Jim talked about working in a Part sketch, but it should work the same in an Assembly sketch. You could then reference this sketch to create or modify your Parts. There are other ways, but you asked about importing it into an Assembly.
Kathy,
If you use a crossing or window to select in the Autocad file, then hit the CTRL-C or copy, then go into your assembly and pick a plan or surface and start a sketch and hit CTRL-V it should past, it will be a undefined sketch and will require you to give it mates, but should work.
Not sure why you want to add to an assembly, usually I always make separate parts and do everything in the part file, I don't have Autocad at this company otherwise I could show you some screen shoots.

You don't have to have Autocad. You can open a DWG file in SW as a drawing.
Hi. Its possible. Try "Sketch from drawing" in Sketch mode.
