I'm trying to create a 2mm Offset Entity of an equation driven curve, but I keep getting an error:
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
The curve probably has an area of tight curvature where the offset is larger than the curvature, making the resulting offset self-intersecting. SW doesn't do self intersecting.
It fails in both directions though. If there's a tight curvature, it should succeed in the reverse direction, right?
If you look at it very closely, the curve wobbles a lot. I was able to get it to offset by 0.151 mm in one direction, and .085 in the other direction.
Plus, if you extrude you can check it with the Check tool.
And there's also the Show Min Radius tool for splines in the RMB menu
Thanks! Indeed I noticed the wobbling, but not sure how it came about. I'll have to double check the curve equations.
As Matt Lombard said usual off set will not work. But you can do it in a different way.
