I am working on my first ever Solidworks top-down modeling.
Getting through with a lot of stuff learning through. Currently, I need to know how can I align this view, say vertical.

Hit the spacebar to bring up Orientation Dialog, then either use Standard View icon buttons (arrowed) to get to the view you need
As Neville Williams said you can standard views from orientation.
Also you can use normal to option. Click on face and select normal to...

in the 3D (PRT or ASM) :
make sure your "System Options" / View / angle value is not too big (Personnaly I set it to 5°)
begin with a flat view (face, or right, or left…)
Always begin with the use of Left/Right with keyboard, to rotate the view.
Then use Up/Down with keyboard to set the inclinaiton/slope.
After you can save the view in 3D (PRTor ASM), or Simply put a new drawing-view in DRW calling that current orientation.
