Not that I'm aware of. Update both PDM and SW together.
Before the update, have all users check in everything. There is a change of losing latest version of files.
There is a change of losing latest version of files:
It doesn't sound good: If the files are check-in; how the latest version is lost?
I think we went from 2017 to 2019 then to 2020 SP0 for the license server and PDM. It seemed to go fine. If that helps at all.
For anyone reading this, the reason Matt had to go from 2017 to 2019 then 2020 is because you can only upgrade at a 2-year max. I am sure Matt knows this, I am just pointing this out for others that may not.

Hmm...That's news to me. I was just interested in new features and made sure the server and PDM were up to date to be able to test the software.

Just to be clear. We've been continuously on subscription since 2007 release. The reason the company skipped upgrading last year because we were in the middle of a hot project and just afraid some might delay the project
So, I know the license server is backwards compatible and I think PDM Server is also. So, AFAIK, there may be no downside to upgrading them at the first SP0 release (definitely give it a month to make sure there's nothing needing a hotfix). That way you can test the new release whenever you get the chance.
I have seen the latest version of files go away because they were checked out during the update. Easy enough to have all checked in before the update.

VERY GOOD ADVICE...
I'm too lazy to look for it, but I'm sure there's an upgrade checklist somewhere in the Admin Guide, or there should be.
And, FYI do NOT Use 'Block Logins' from the Admin Tool to make sure that users don't log in if you are planning on using the File Version Upgrade Tool to upgrade all your vault files. Unless you like restoring from backups:

Thanks Jim, that's good advice, too. We only have a few users. So, it's simple here.
