If I click on a face of an inserted part ( in a part) all the unabsorbed sketches of the inserted part light up. How do I turn this effect off? I don't want to see all these sketches at once. Even using the "Hide All Types" Icon does not help.
thanks, Jeff
Thanks Walter. That was actually the first thing I tried. Still won't hide all these sketches. It really only happens when I click on the face of an inserted part. All the unabsorbed sketches become visible. I should say that this is in SW 2018 sp5.
thanks,
jeff
It is happening to me as well. Although I think that it is normal behavior. My sketches aren't all consuming like yours are though. Let me look into it for a bit and I will let you know.
So, after a bit of research, when I select a face of an inserted part into a part, the face highlights and all the unabsorbed sketches for that component also highlight (just like you originally said....just re-iterating here).
When I change the "Selected Item 1" color in options, it also changes the color of those sketches, even though I haven't selected them.
But, this means that Solidworks is seeing this as part of the selection. SO its not really a bug as far as I can tell.
The same thing does NOT happen inside an assembly when you select the face of a component.
In this case, this circle is part of this sketch:
In fact, notice that, when the face is selected, the Hide Column for the sketch is actually showing as shown.
Notice the same view without the face selected:
So, for some reason, Solidworks is actively displaying (and temporarily changing the display status) of the sketches. When you deselect the face, they go back to hidden state.
This may actually be purposeful, because when I select the face, then immediately move my mouse and attempt to select the circle, it DOES select it.
It even allows me to select the little orange arrow and drag it, creating an extrude on the fly:
However, this is ONLY true for unabsorbed sketches that have been imported as part of an insert part command. It is NOT true for any other sketches in the part as far as I can tell.
I went through every setting I can find, and I cannot get the unabsorbed sketches to NOT display when a face of an inserted part (part in part) is selected.
sure you can - just don't insert them with the part
Sure, don't use SolidWorks
In my case, I need them for reference. It isn't a huge bother for me because I don't have very many. But if I had a lot of sketches, I could see it being a problem.
Doesn't happen to me, 2019 SP5.
I'm sure I was doing same thing with 2018 SP5.
This is typical MS I use daily.
Hey Dan,
Thanks for drilling into this. I'm glad to see that you are seeing what I am seeing. I still think this is a bug, especially since anther person in the thread said it did not seem to happen in SW2020. It would be great if Dessault was monitoring this thread. I'm not sure how to bring it up to them and to understand why they would have this "Feature" or how to turn it off. In any case, my client has been on my case for why this is happening and at least I can tell them that it is happening to other people. thanks, jeff
Shoot an email to your VAR with a link to this thread and have them verify what versions it is in and what it is not in. Then have them search for an SPR and see if it was fixed in a later version (based on comments from others, it looks like it was fixed in SW 2019 and later)
I am using SW 2018 SP5 by the way.
Make sure sketches are hidden in the part.
Open the tree to see the sketch and hide them.
The option you use make them invisible but not hidden.
when you insert the part you get to choose what comes in:
and you can edit this later if you edit the inserted part feature in the tree
Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm going to see if there is some direct way to ask an engineering at Dessault why this "feature" exists or at least what the intent of this might be. cheers, jeff
