Our design engineers us Catia V5 for modeling. They have to supply model information to our manufacturing engineers who use Solidworks. Does anyone know if there is any data transfer package that will allow our engineers who are using Catia to save out the model as a solidworks format. Yes we know they can save as step but we would prefer to have it as a solidworks format. I have looked at datakit.com but I don't know if that is the answer.

I would like CATIA to be able to save as a solidworks format even if it is a dumb solid. I do not want to translate it in solidworks. I want to take a file which was saved out of CATIA as a solidworks file even if it is a dumb solid but it still is a solidworks file.

Can you explain the reason behind this? Is it because you expect CATIA to do a better job of making a SW file? Just because CATIA does the translating doesn't mean you'll get a better model. It's like language translation. Just becasue Tolstoy wrote War and Peace, you don't necessarily want to read his English translation. (yeah, I don't have any idea.. he may have actually been fluent).

Save it as a parasolid from CATIA. Parasolid IS Solidworks format. Just backbone of it.

He knows.
He's using it and it ask for CATIA translator Activation.
Maybe he should try that.

So does SolidWorks need to update the matrix of what is provided with SW Standard? Or am I missing something?

3D Interconnect is available with SOLIDWORKS Standard. Just not for CATIA files. So the CATIA translator isn't part of the 30+ translators mentioned.

I guess, that every translator for CATIA is much more expensive as a translator for SWX. With this said, I would have a look at the solutions provided on the SWX side...
The CATIA V5 Importer for SWX was an add-in, wich costs 3500 EUR here in Germany. Nowadys is doesn't exist anymore. Users, wich have paid for it, should be able to ask for an free upgrade to SWX Prem. SWX uses 3D Interconnect to import CATIA V5 files (parts and assemblies), wich is avaible in SWX Prem. and not Std. (as mentioned before).
If you don't have SWX Prem. I recommend to go for a solution from Datakit. They offer import/export tools for CATIA V4/5/6 and for drawings as well.
Other - but expensive - solutions are offered by coretechnology (3D evolution with healing, simplifiing and more) ore Elysium.
Getting parametric transferred or assoziative drawings will be difficult anyhow.
Another approach is to have a look at the 3DXperience platform provided from Dassault Systemes itself. Here the boundaries between the systems become blurred - and so the data transfer/conversion.
Someone else mentioned it, but use parasolid (.x_t) format, that is the base kernal SW uses, so will be as close to a "SW format" as you can get.
Some good responses here - if you don't want to go to Solidworks premium, you'll need a translator which can read CATIA V5.
Even if you already have a way to read CATIA files, if your geometry is not coming in well (especially organic geometry), then consider evaluating other translators. Make sure the translator can write out to Parasolid, since that is the geometric modeling kernel SWX uses.
TransMagic's standard eval reads everything, but doesn't write to CAD formats, however you can request an eval upgrade to Pro or Expert which will write to Parasolid.
What I know:
SW can't translate CATIA properly.
I used IV to convert CATIA to STEP for SW.
Either way it'll just come in as dumb solid.
