How to connect with (1) shortest length (2) using 1 spline only?

Let me be clear, I attended a Solidworks exam (in which I failed) where I couldn't answer a question.

It was an assembly which is similar like the picture below. They asked me to create a pipe (connector between two ports. There are 2 conditions:
1. It should be in minimum length possible.

2. It should be done by only one spline as path. Not like 2 or 3 connected segments as paths.



Now I have 2 problems in here.


1. It will be connecting 2 ports. So a portion of the pipe will be inserted inside the ports. So, in those places the path will be in straight lines. So How can I create the whole pipe in one single spline?

2. I don't know how to determine the shortest length possible.
