hey All is there a way that we can do this with in solidworks from images without using the spline tool to draw out all the lines
what i like to do is ,is getting a kind of vector so that i can then use it on the cnc to cut it out

Hey Matt i have tried it with the trace tool but as you said it makes a mess
no nice lines at all
No nice lines because you're working with a .jpg file. The software cannot create a nice line because the edges are jaggy pixels. If you look at an edge in a vector file, it is a clean edge, not a bunch of pixels. Can you find a different picture of a guitar that is in a vector format?
If you start with a vector image, Inkscape will give you a traced outline of the part, which you can save out as a vector. What you have posted, however, is a .jpg, which is a raster image, which will not convert to a vector. While you can save it in a vector format, the edges of the image will still be jaggy, same as in a raster image, which will not give you a usable trace or outline of the part.
In order to use it, you'll have to manually trace the outline with Inkscape or Solidworks splines or something else.
Hello Remco,.. if you can get a high resolution image (black/white with high contrast) and break/section it up if it's too big... it's possible.
Here's a converter which works really good..
SW has a tool for this Tools>Add Ins:
But, I've had mixed results with it. You may do better with Inkscape (it's free). There are youtube videos out there on how to do it in that program.
