Circular pattern/Linear sketch pattern on uneven guideline

Hi all.

Is it possible to create either a circular or linear sketch pattern of this circle (A), with 9-degree spacing along with the dotted line where the current circle is?

So that means, there'll be 40 of the circles along the dotted line where the current circle on A is. Not sure whether I'm making any sense. I've been pulling my head to figure it out. I know I can just manually do a circular pattern on the 9 degree line like this but then to create the circle, I just don't want to do it manually. Taking way too much time.

Thought? Please advise?

Hi,

i think you could achieve you goal much easier with using "vary sketch" option. Choose the angle dim as the reference for the pattern. Please noticed that i first created a body and second add a bore as the feature for the pattern. And i "melted" all splines together.

Thanks, Maha Nadarasa for the quick response. That's exactly what I'm looking for but how did you do it? My apology since my Solidworks is the older 2018 version so I can't open up your file. Or perhaps the property of the crvpattern so I can see how you configure it. :-)

Le Dude I don't think that you are looking for this. Look at the sketch. The first circle does not coincide with the line 9 deg. All circles have an equal distance on the curve (but it is dependent from distance from pattern center). There is the Curve Driven Pattern..

In your case - only hand work. Is to much variables to make Pattern. Angle, distance to center, shape of curve. I have a SW 2012, but I don't suppose that in newer version it is possibble?

There's a few ways to go about this..

variable patterns, linear pattern with vary sketch etc.. but they're all a bit flakey.

To combat this I made a macro that can be used for a configuration pattern.. it can pattern anything.. at the cost of a bit of setup / an extra file with configs.

Insert Part Configurations Macro

The premise is simple.. model what you want, then configure it with a Design Table
Then the macro inserts all of them into a new part

Its not a problem..Instead of cutting holes.. make faces.. then with selection filter|faces select 1 CTRL-a / convert entities.. otherwise internal loops are problem for converting to sketch

Now I wonder what it is? Because if it is a cover and the holes are to be screwed it, then is appropriate pattern on curve, because in this case the holes should have equal spacing.

I had the same thought... but solving the problem is fun. I've got an old macro that sketches vertices as points .. I'm gonna give that a go

That's well cool. I've never been able to select a dimension as the direction in circular pattern.. vary sketch always gray.. whats the secret?

However, I can't seem to replicate what you did. The "Vary Sketch" for the circular pattern disappeared as soon as I click on the circular hole. What am I missing? Of course, I can go to the manual route by creating the circle one by one but that's just so tedious. I'd like to learn a more efficient way if it's all possible. :-D

Hi,
you have to select the angle dim for the patterns axis. A linear dim doesn't describe an axis wich is necessary vor a circular pattern.
I've attached a sample part (SWX2018 format) for you.
Sry for the delay in my response - but I haven't had access to the older SWX 2018 on the weekend.

No worries at all with the delay. I really appreciate you are spending your time trying to help me. I see what you are doing there and I got it working based on your suggestion.

The only challenge is that for some reason it doesn't do the whole circle. Only a quarter of the circle. Even after I converted the construction line into fitline. I guess it's a different issue. Many thanks again

Hi,
I've used the "fit spline" feature to add all 4 splines together to one spline.
Or your circle has a mate to only the one spline instead of the new fit spline.

So thanks to Heiko Sohnholz guide, I found this youtube channel that basically gives the answer that I was looking for. Again, it's answering my question directly in terms of creating the circle on a sketch but the final result is what I'm looking for and it does it for me. Unfortunately, the youtube channel is not in English, but you don't need the voice. I don't understand a word of it myself but the direction was what I followed and it does it for me. Just follow the direction on the part of the "Curve Driven Pattern". I thought I put it here as a reference so that if one day someone else is going through what I went through, this can be used as a reference. Many thanks for all of your help again everyone.
