Hello everyone,
I am very new to solidworks and am trying to detail an extrusion resembling an angled plate coped at 2 corners around some tubing. When I have "merge result" checked the body copes properly around the tubing however then I have two posts and the plate as a single body. I tried to use the split feature but cannot get it to split the bodies properly. Is there another way to get the plate coped around the tubing so that I can have it separated on a drawing sheet with the cope pattern?
Any help is appreciated.
No it doesn't.
There are multiple ways to do this. Split (followed by Delete Bodies) can work, but it's not the best method. You can simply do an extruded cut:
The best way is to incorporate plates into your weldment profiles. Then you can use the normal trimming methods:
I have two weldment profiles, a simple square and a round. I tweak the sketch dimensions to suit my needs in the weldment. Other people have more complicated methods with profiles for each plate thickness or bar stock width and height so that their cut lists populate automatically. I don't do enough with plates to make that approach worth my while.
