I just stumbled into this.
I have a couple of config specific file properties - set using Property Tab. ("WIDTH" / "HEIGHT")
I have an unconfigured Global Variable "OFFSET"
Then a couple of equations that use these to calculate some model dims.
Works great until I added some derived configs.
Link to Parent doesn't work the way I expected, which is a bit rubbish, because it's very convenient.
It would be nice if the value actually was linked to the parent..
any ideas how to get this to work?

I've sent it in to my VAR to see what they say.
After thinking about this further I understand it may not be as simple as I first considered.
For example is the equation itself linked to the parent or the result of evaluating the equation?
I could add extra file properties.. but I hate violating the principle that any data should be changed in just one place.
Those @configname things annoy me and I generally delete them (uses active config which as you note is all you are allowed anyway!)

If I'm not mistaken, W and H are File properties.
Rob Edwards, Are your file properties W and H on the configuration specific tab? derp I see now that you said they were.
I dont know if this will help, just throwing stuff out to get the wood chips smoking.

Yes I've set it up that way..
I'm trying to take advantage of the Property Tab to change file properties for multiple components all at once from the Assembly.. in an attempt to alleviate all problematic external references.
It was working pretty good, till I hit this hiccup.. but even though the error is present, the geometry is still correct.
Unless I am mistaken it has highlighted that there is no link to parent option for file properties.
Derp, so I see now that what you are trying to do directly isn't possible (read limitation of SW).
A work around could be set up though. Im trying to remember the work around right now.

I probably should have set up an SSP.. it was meant to be just a quick job and I thought I'd experiment..
But yes, if you remember the work-a-round I'd be well grateful.
So if I have this right...
you're adding derived configurations presumably to change the W and H of a part, in each configuration. So default might be w=6, and the other config w=10. ECT
For some reason, D1 and D2 need to equal the parent configuration's W and H, NOT the new configuration's W and H?
and you cant use a different value name in the alternative configuration such as "WIDTH2"
presumably all your parts in this assembly have this D1 and D2 needs to equal parent config problem?
I cannot seem to remember the work around (if it exists, I'm not sure if I only did something similar).... I'll keep thinking on it but it had something to do with suppressing a dim in the alternate config.... but I tried that and it suppressed it in both.... and you cant use the "Custom" tab because that will introduce "last saved active configuration" problems with the .DRW file.....
