Hi, I got a CAD file from somebody else. It has _part_asm.stp as part of the filename. Since opening the assembly leads to error (see below), I created a new assembly and loaded the model. I right-clicked on an individual component. Rather than having an option to Edit Part or Edit Component as shown in the Help document, I was given an option to Open Drawing. How come? When I clicked on it, SW asked me to locate the component file which I don't have. Do I need to ask for another format? I am using student version of 2019-2020.

2019 SOLIDWORKS Help - Editing a Part in an Assembly

Error I received when I tried to open the file without creating a new assembly first.

"The default templates are not valid. The problems can be resolved by correcting the default templates under the options dialog. Do you want to continue with a blank template?"

This message just keeps showing up regardless of whether I clicked OK or Cancel. I had to force close SW.
