Hi
I'm trying to run a static analysis on a simple assembly, but I keep getting the 'Excessive displacements were calculated in this model' error when curvature-based mesh is used:
I cannot go ahead using Large Displacement as the screw is distributed and not rigid. If it went ahead without using Large Displacement, the resulting displacements look very wrong.
However, the analysis runs fine without the warning if standard mesh was used. Does anyone know why geometry-based mesh results in such a strange error? Is it a bug? I've attached the model (SW2020).
Thanks
I tried to fiddle with the file a few ways and got the same thing. It's like the bolt can't support any shear load, so the rod flies away. I even re-made the bolt connector, checked its settings, and got the same results.
So I made a new study in the same assembly. It runs well.
A few things I did, none of which should matter, that I think are best practice:
- moved the boundary condition on faces different from the bolt references
- refined mesh at the joint and/or through the plate (which is loaded in bending)
- picked surface-to-surface ("High accuracy") for the no-penetration contact
- corrected the bolt diameter to the correct nominal O.D.
Again, all of these are good things, but I've gotten away with worse than this study in every regard. This is a good one for the developers.
