I am curious why so many users of this forum are obsessed with the collection of "Points".
I will frequently see comments if the Point system is down, or people are trying to move Points to another email account, etc. etc.
Why is this?
It is the only "currency" in the forum.
And you'll see your name in the front page when you're in the top ten.
It let you feel important
I liked your comment. I replied to your comment. Please mark my answer correct so I can get the hat trick. I'll settle for everyone that reads this to like this post.
The frequency of it being an issue or topic indicates its commonality, not a user obsession over it. We have already assessed and discussed the uselessness of it, and all of the point leaders know darn well that there is no point to having points. We do joke about redeeming points for beer, upon a meetup at the yearly conference. Some users gift points to others, equally for no effect other than a kind gesture equivalent to a pat on the back, because I cannot pat your back from here.
I am married and have several teenage children. How else am I supposed to find an increased value of self-worth?
Jeff Wygum ... you get,.... 1,000 points!!!!
Yeah, the whole social media orbit is kind of messed up..
..it's a "look at me" or "I'm winning" or "I know more.." ego thing. (kind of like the current potus?)
The original frustration were the points not working or working fairly or how the points (status) can accumulate,.. that is,....like, like, like... or, be liked, liked, liked.... = High School Popularity Status?
If you mark my comment as helpful, I will give 1 like
Believe people deserved the points if they re more active on the forum
Points won't be exchanged for anything. Why being obsessed about it. If you think some are, then name some
I like being able to say to my Idiot ______ (<-----insert applicable noun here) "Hey man, I'm in the top 50 users club of the WORLD!".... Hehe completely valueless otherwise.
When I first started on the forums I used it as a way to judge "Reputable Sources".... AND Den I Discovered the F.LAW in that
I'm not obsessed but I check in almost every day to see my standing and responses to my posts...ok, maybe that's a little obsessive...but DSS has taken so much away from the community over the past year or so and the forums are a great place to rant...as of this morning, number 326.

If Roland Schwarz doesn't join in I may pass him!!!!
I've never understood the whole points thing. How do you get them? What are they for anyway?
I log in to see if there are any interesting questions I can answer. Or fun problems to ponder.
and,...as we move onto to the next topic... "Point Hoarding and Forum User Disorders.."
Boy . . . . . Now I'm really hyped up!!!
Since I posted my question this morning I've moved up to a level 8 Influencer, been given a total of 3000 points, received a badge with 10 points, received acclaim, etc. etc.
Now I'm going to have to get some Duct Tape to keep my head from exploding!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you :-)
Careful now, it's habit-forming. Don't get obsessed.

Congrats Jeff,.. you are currently at the "pre-Greed" level for points (stock market graphic)!
Can't decide if this merits a "meh" or a "feh".
Points..... Did you say Points.....
Obsession with points for an empty egotistical movement, that puts people on an empty pedestal of the biggest nothing there ever was,

That's the Cloud.
I should push you to No.1
Now you know that this points are nothing.
My favorite is a topic like this that should already be dead keeps going with useless comments that can only be recognized as a desperate attempt to get more points.
This comment is a perfect example.

Maybe not for everyone. For those whose wife is beating at home and the boss does not respect at work, This points are important. Much important!
