I have a few models that I have to put on new model templates. However when I try, the "break link" is missing and it refers back to the original part. I am using Solidworks 2019 SP4.0.
I have attached a screenshot of the problem

What is the procedure for doing this?
new model template? if you are looking to update the settings for the document properties, this could be done by loading an external file that is saved from the updated template.
why? Would it not be easier to just make a new part that one there looks simple, are the parts changing, as in you are wanting to add to them and not to the original?
These parts are used in multiple assemblies and we have quite a few new Solidworks users.I don't want to confuse these users. I am changing the materials of these shafts and cannot in the originals

So.... If all you're doing is changing the material, just copy the files in Explorer or do a "Save as" . Then change the material.
Are you trying to edit the feature, or is this upon insertion? If I remember correctly, "break link" is only available during insert. Once it's inserted, that box is not available during an edit operation.
