Hans, in addition to what has already been said I have on occasion been fortunate to be able to turn them off though the Feature Manager under the "Display Annotations" tick box. This can be hit or miss though as it depends on how they have come in with the original file. Good luck with it ...
I believe those view settings applied to each file individually, in which case you would need to open each component and turn them off there as well.
