"Selecting a View Orientation With Normal To" using reference geometry?

2020 SOLIDWORKS Help - Viewing Models Normal To 

 

I want to use the ctrl+ select to faces method using one face and one reference plane.

 

Any way to make this work without a stupid workaround like making a planar surface on the reference plane?
