i have been looking for a software that can tell me how much/ how many of our Solidworks licenses we are using. is there anything like that out there?
Your VAR can give you this information quite easily.
ive brought it up before and didn't have any luck. ill reach out to them again.
Jon, depending what type of information you're looking to acquire have you checked into the tools available on the "Admin" side of things?
This can be found within the Start Menu under "SOLIDWORKS Tools"
i havent, is there somthing in there?
There is quite a bit in there, I just blanked mine out as it has all the users info which I do not want posted here.
ah yes i have used that in the past. but i am looking for something that can give me say a month of past usage, how many licenses we are using ect.
LAMUM from TeamEDA works well for us
upload your lmgrd.log from C:\Program Files (x86)\SolidWorks SolidNetWork License Manager to: OpenLM license parser (FLEXlm/FLEXnet license files, debug log and more) it will give you a comprehensive breakdown
I agree to this, we have been using few years OPEN LM, works like a charm!
I haven't used it, but sounds interesting: Work with a log SolidNetWork License Manager (lmgrd)
I can vouch for this. I have used and tweaked it a little, but it has already proven to be invaluable to reference the daily license usage of not only Solidworks licenses but all other Solidworks related products that run through the license manager including PDM licenses. We were able to reduce our overall license count saving thousands of dollars annually. We were able to justify it with the fact that in the rare cases over the summer when we have summer help we can use some term licenses to increase temporarily. Power BI is pretty much free to use until you need to publish the report. Even then there are workarounds.
Hi,Tom Puttkammer, I am working on this application for analyzing network licenses, you can read in that topic. I will be happy to help you and answer your questions.
The site www.alllicenseparser.com that @john_Power refers to is great. It's one of the few third party applications that I recommend as a VAR. That site is free but you must enter contact information to get the PDF report. It's basically a teaser of www.openlm.com which I have tested before. If you have multiple softwares deployed in your enviroment that use network functionality, it's really worth it.
I would also note that the license manager log file empties every time the service is stopped/started (aka server reboots, re-activations, upgrades, etc..) That is for performance sake so you don't have a huge file taking up all your hard drive space after a few years. However, there is a reg key you can set to prevent that from happening.
We use License Statistics by X-Formation. Company already owned it before I started with them so not sure of cost but it gives all the breakdowns you are asking for. Good tool and works for all FlexLM licenses so we use it for many. I can set user preferences so I only see the assets I care about by default.
Hope that helps a bit.
Vote for SPR 549222: Request for tool to track snl license usage and generate reports if you want SW to provide something rather than needing to depend on third-party tools.
