I am trying to make a drawing. I have different
configurations of the assy. The only difference being that
different parts are being hidden. When I insert views into my
drawing, the item numbers are off, mostly just by one. If that view
is of a different configuration. I have started over, like three
times. New drawing. New configurations. STILL Same problem!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Tools > Options > Document Properties > Tables > Bill of Materials --- Missing Component --- Keep the row for missing component
Set the BOM > Item number option to Follow Assembly Order.
I dont think I am missing anything. I've checked, and rechecked all parts, display status, and anything else I can think of..
hmmm.. I've never used Display States. I will have to check it out.
Kelvin,
I did have parts suppressed for the diff Configurations, but I changed to simply hiding them, thinking that was my problem. The BOM table itself is ok.. It is the Balloon Item numbers differing from one view(configuration).
Is it just a bad idea to use diff configurations for diff views in a drawing? especailly when you have to add balloon item numbers to multible view, all looking at one BOM table.
Is it more efficient and wise, to use different display states?
thanks!!
Samuel,
Just for clarification.
Regardless of whether you are using part configurations or multiple parts, your BOM will remain the same if you are merely "hiding" components. What I mean is the total number of parts and therefore item numbers will remain the same.
A hidden component is simply that, a component that cannot be seen. It's a display issue only. On the other hand, a suppressed component is also removed from display but more importantly, it is removed from memory.
Hidden Components - Are not displayed but exist in memory, therefore they are accounted for in BOMs and in Mass Property calculations.
Suppressed Components - Are not displayed because they are not in memory, therefore they are excluded from BOMs and Mass Property calculations.
That is what I thought, about hidden verses suppressed.
It still doesn't explain why my ballon item numbers are off from one view to another. And now, another stupid SW quirk. I'm placing ballon item numbers. I decide to move a leader on one. When I did, the item number changed to the incorrect number. AND, it won't change back. I've deleted it, replaced it, there's no ather parts behind, or around it.!!
We could eventually solve your problem if we sent enough messages back and forth. However, if you need a timely response, then zip-up your assembly, parts and assembly drawing and post them here.
I don't think you have much more wrong than a few settings.
I would be glad to send you the zipped assy, and drawing. I just don't want to post.
Shoot me an email..
Thanks,
Samuel

I'm having the same problem!!! ...and it's VERY frustrating. I posted this thread a few days ago with jpegs of a sample assembly drawing:
http://forum.solidworks.com/fo...atid=6&threadid=20652
Is this what you are describing?
Somebody please help!
Thanks,
Brandon
That option is grayed out. I dont know why..??
thanks..
I have created a simplified assembly to demonstrate a problem I am having when trying to balloon different configurations of a part.
Please see the (2) jpegs I have attached.
Item 2 is a piece of channel - this is the 'default' config.
Item 3 is the same part, but is the 'mirror' config.
I have inserted a view of the channel-'default' config. When I add a balloon it calls out Item 3, the 'mirror' config!
One of the jpegs I've attached confirms that the default config is selected (under properties).
The view is linked to the BOM under properties as well.
Has anyone else seen this - or know a solution???
Thank You!
Samuel & All,
After performing some tests, I can shed a bit of light on the subject, see attachment.
#1 - I have the same issue as Samuel, the choice to "link to BOM" is grayed out.
This is using SW09 SP0.0
#2 - Even though Brandon is using SW09 SP2.0, Can the software be trusted? Are the balloons linked to the BOM?
I would say no to both questions!
It would be nice to see this tested on SW09 SP3.0.
How about you Kelvin? ...you have SP3.0

I also believe it is a bug in the software.
Perhaps next week I will drop SolidWorks a SPR..
Thanks,
Samuel
Samuel,
I was able to use a twist to the suggestion given by Stephen Theders in topic: BOM Link Lost.
I turned on the Add-In: SolidWorks 2D Emulator and by doing so, the link option was no longer grayed-out. Of course, turning off the add-in resulted in the option being grayed out again and the check box and selected BOM were also cleared.
So I guess all I have proved is that this options is all F'd up in SW09.
That's Crazy!!
I'll try turning the Add-in on.. And see if that helps..
By the way, I'm already running 2.1

If you still want it checked with SP3, fire it across to CorBlimeyLimey@Lycos.com
