Can the 2020 SolidNetWork License Manager run on Windows 2012?
Looks like it's not supported.
It is ridiculous that a program as simple as the License Manager requires one to upgrade their version of Windows Server
I'm in the same boat.
So whats the trick to get the installation manager to run on Server 2012R2 so you can install the SLM?
I don't know. The manual says that it is supported for License Manager but no luck, in the end I had to install it on a new server.
Great. So I have to upgrade my server just to run the license manager. Wow. Just wow.
The best , is that the installer is ok with windows 7 that is no more supported by microsoft since february 2020, but with windows server 2012R2 that is supported until 2023, it won't install.!!!
What is this sh*t ? Seriously ?
So what does i do with my windows server 2012R2 that i have not planed to upgrade this year ,!
Minalan the Spellmonger Systems Administrator here with an actual solution.
I made an account specifically to share this information with you and anybody else who stumbles upon this.
I couldn't find this answer easily, so I figured it out myself.
My Var told me it was not possible. (it is)
In short, you're removing the installers Operating System Check.
-Download all the Solidworks Install files (you're specifically looking to download the standalone installer for the SolidNetwork license server)
-Find the folder named SWLICMGR (SOLIDWORKS 2020 SP03\swlicmgr)
-Set that folder aside.
-Download and install Windows 10 SDK https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/windows-10-sdk/
-After it's finished installing go to Start > Windows Software Development Kit. Search for Orca and install that.
~~~Orca is a program made by Microsoft that allows you to edit .MSI files.
-Once Orca is installed, find "SOLIDWORKS SolidNetWork License Manager.msi" in the "swlicmgr" folder
-Right click the MSI and "Edit with Orca"
-Edit > Search "checkosversion"
-Find the rows that show CheckOSVersion and "NOT ((VersionNT64=601 And MsiNTProductType=1) Or (VersionNT64>=603 And WINDOWSBUILD >= 10240) )"
If it doesn't say this, don't delete it.
I found two that said this.
-Right click, drop row.
-Copy the entire folder to your server and install with the MSI file.
It has been working great for me.
