I have created a model in 3d studio max. exported to CAD and tried to open it in solid works. The file browser window doesn't show cad drawing, so I'm unable to open it.
What "CAD" format did you export to?
Autocad 2015 .dwg...It saves as 2013
I am not familiar with 3D Studio and its file format. One thing to check for is the file type SWX is set to look for when opening files. I just opened my SWX and went to open a file and see this:
Notice that it is looking for SWX assembly files. If you know the file type and SWX can open it then you can filter to look specifically for those file types. Otherwise you can tell it to look at all file types and find and select your file.
I changed the format to look for dwg
I don't use 3D Max.
I quick Google search, I found this:
Save you model as a "neutral" file format. If it is a solid use Parasolid (x_t) or STEP.
Then SolidWorks will open it.
Thanks for your help. I was using the online version. They are sending me a link to a full downloadable version so hope that fixes it.
