I this still being supported? Is there anything special that I need? Is there a cost for it?
Any help is appreciated.
Switching to Android is a personal choice, but I don't think you would regret it one bit. Probably a ton of other cad viewers available for it as well so long as the files are in a neutral format (step/iges). I wouldn't be surprised if there are better viewers than the edrawings one, and probably free as well.
FYI if you want to compare different tablets and can physically test them (in store or something)... Install "3DMark" and benchmark it. It will stress the CPU and GPU of the device and give a score. Higher numbers are better. It's geared towards gamers, but it will give you a relative number to compare different devices. You can also compare the average numbers on their website. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
I used it years ago (2012 or 2013) on an iPad 2. It couldn't handle assemblies very well unless many of the components were hidden. I believe the app was a paid app. I'm sure newer hardware can handle it much better as the CPUs and GPUs in these devices are leaps and bounds what they were when I used it.
You would probably have better luck checking reviews in the app store.
The app in Google play store has average rating of 3.1. I couldn't tell you for apple though.
I see the responses on the apple app store. very poor rating, but again .. these are very old reviews.
I'm wondering if its better to go with Android over apple.
its really amazing how much better the reviews are on the e-drawings app on Android over iPad.
Has me thinking the newest Samsung tablet is looking like the better option.
This is great information. Thanks very much for this.
Thanks very much for the link for best tablets. Went with the Samsung S6 Tablet based on this. Couldn't be happier. Really appreciate your help with this.
Hopefully others can benefit from it as well.
Hold on !
'free' edrawings is not even available for free on Android?
Do they truly have no idea how many other 'viewers' there are around that are free?
Even Autodesk Fusion is free.
They really like to nickel and dime their valued customers.
I guess we'll have to be glad that they haven't started charging an 'annual' fee for it....yet.
I can recall when the iOS version came out and how it took this community to try and make them see that having an Android version would make far more sense seeing as the market penetration of Android was far bigger then Apple.
E-drawings can be an HTML file. Works great and doesn't need any paid software at all. No need to purchase the Android E-Drawings app at all.
Fusion 360 is completely free if you make less than $100k a year in profit, certainly the app would be free as well.
