why does Solidworks become unresponsive after a close Design table in Excel? Does anyone have a solution for that. This is taking lots of productivity from my work.
Could you upload your part? You could have a circular reference..
THE size of the table could be the problem, or an open dialog box somewhere on the screen or behind a screen. sometimes excel and SolidWorks don't play so nice with each other. I would try to limit the size of the table, if it is a small table then you need to look into how it is wanting to make changes. I would do some large ones, and a good idea is to copy all the manual input to another page so in case it crashes out or does not complete the parts cause of a entry error you can fix it and copy and past the rest of the data into the table.
Thanks for the response. Size isn't a problem. Sometimes I have 1 or 2 lines in excel and after I make changes and close the excel, solidworks do not response at all. Surely, Solidworks thinks the file is still open. so the close command does not goes to solidworks. One reason might be the slow server because I always work from a server.
well then there is the solution, save the file to the hard drive, then when your done with it save it back to the server.
If your working with more than a few people you could open another session of solidworks, on the computer and keep the server open till your able to replace it.
What version and service pack of SW? What version of excel? What version of Windows?
There were some issues with SW2016.
Do you have other workbooks open when you close the design table?
Sometimes there is a little dialog that appears in the upper right corner area of the model that has a message in it that stops SW.
Are you sure there are no issues with the design table that would cause SW to lock up.
Would help if you could upload a model with the issue.
Does this happen everytime or just sometimes?
Does task manager show excel still running? If yes what happens if you kill the process?
I don't know how to insert solidworks file here.
No other workbooks open.
i use 2020.
after pressing several keys to invoke the solidworks, it fiannyl shows me box saying "internal error"
this happens a lot. like in every part. usually when i open design table first time, it works, but when i open second time, it freezes.
task manager shows solidworks working normally. as i said cause solidworks thinks design table is still open.
and when i kill solidworks, of course i lose all the changes i made.
Could be a bug with SW2020. With the HUL gone away, I cannot get access to it until work upgrades it license. Have to contacted your VAR?
I will call them tomorrow cause i can't work like that.

This is what happens when I close Design table in excel!! Can't confirm. Nothing works!!!
It's been a couple years since I have seen that message. Right now I do not remember if there was a solution. Were the models you are adding the DT to created in SW2020?
Were you able to resolve this issue @Seth Tayfun? I am currently experiencing a similar issue myself.
problem mit excel tabelle apparently Microsoft changed something in their API, install older version excel/office is probably the best resolution.
Lookup SPR 1176993 then contact your VAR ASAP and tell them that this needs to be fixed without delay.
If enough subscribers complain, there’s a better chance SW will commit to helping us on our time frame.
I fixed it by:
I think you are absolutely right about SolidWorks thinking the design table is still open.
Here is how I "fix" it:
1. Close every Excel file open on your desktop (even the files unrelated to SolidWorks). The Excel app needs to be completely killed.
2. If you have no currently open Excel files after editing the design table, open Excel (any file or blank) and close it again.
I believe the origin of the problem is:
SolidWorks freezes the model when editing a design table.
SolidWorks thinks you are done editing the design table when the whole Excel app is killed, which is bad. The script should check only if ie. Design Table.xlsx is currently open.
Hello! I am having the same issue as well. I have tried the "work around" described here, but with no luck. The only solution I can get to work is to use the "edit table in new window" command. Make changes then save and close the excel file. This seems to keep SW2020 from hanging up.
Solidworks guys could't solve the problem either then, the bosses thought it was my fault, things fell behind and they laid me off. Autodesk Inventor is the solution for parametric design!!!
