Is it jsut me or does anybody else get the sensation of somebody running their nails down a chalk board when speed pack it on?

I mean, don't get me wrong.. I like the conpet.. but that part disapearing is really annoying...

So, is there a why to toggle that on and off? I would like it if I had to hold down the "P" key or something to get that preview.

Then.. if you go to click a face have it automatically turn on "select other"

thats my two cents.

I agree it would help if this were a toggleable option
this can get annoying when you are zoomed out on a large assembly and need to give someone a quick explanation and point at objects with the mouse only you cant see it and point at it at the same time without waiting 45 seconds while changing the configuration.

We did have one computer without a workstation graphics card and it did not get the invisible circle on speed packs and the magnifying glass did not work
I will let you weigh the pros and cons on that

  Interesting. I'm not getting the invisible circle thing with speedpaks (but my magnifying glass works fine and I do have an approved graphics card).
  
  I have the opposite problem of the original post, I'd like to be able to turn it on (SW 2009 SP3). Any ideas?

Hi,

Maybe my reply is a bit late, but maybe it helps. We have the spanish version of SW 2010 here, therefore I don't know the english words that are used for these funcions, but see the attached screenshot.

Go to the "add speedpack" menu.
If you activate the "Activar inclusión rápida" button (translation "rapid selection"???) and than drag the surface and solid arrows to the left, you don't have the problem of the invisible area around the mouse indicator.

  That'd be the "Enable Quick Include" button. Trouble is, that defeats any advantage of SpeedPak. In fact, it seems to create extra surfaces, beyond what you'd have without SpeedPak. My system slows down a lot if I drag the sliders all the way to the left.
  
  We use SpeedPak only on our top assembies, with no surfaces included for selection and mating. We mate the assemblies only with planes.
  
  What we'd like is a way to get rid of the ghost-busting halo around the selection pointer.

    I am just becoming interested in the speedpak issue. i have an assembly that can take over 10 min. to open and would like to streamline the process. Is speedpak SWs version of "shrink wrap" from PRO-E? When we did Shrink Wrap in Pro, IIRC, the entire surface of a part or assembly was available but the inside was not. Apparently that is not the case with Speedpak?

      i can be. the default set up is to manually select faces/bodies to include. but you can use the sliders they talked about above to automatically select all of the surfaces (internal as well as external).

      SpeedPak is not like Shrinkwrap. SW calls it a simplified configuration, but I do not think that describes it.
      
      We use SpeedPak without options - no selected faces or solids, just the main 3 reference planes and what they call a ghost image. When we place the model into a higher level assembly and use the SpeedPak configuration, then we mate it in place using its major reference planes. The ghost image is useful when working on other components, so you can see the relationships. You can select faces, edges, etc. when using the measure tool. The ghost image also works in your assembly drawing. You can make cross sections and attach witness lines.
      
      The main advantage is speed. Its a big difference, especially in drawings. Its also nice that should you need to work with the complete model, you can switch to using a non-SpeedPak configuration.
      
      The main pain in the butt is that when you make changes, you have to do a manual update of the SpeedPak configuration. Then there's the "x-ray flashlight" feature, which serves no purpose except to annoy. I gather it is intended to remind the operator that you cannot select features in a SpeedPak (except those that you've made selectable, which is an option) but I am underwhelmed by the implementation.

        I have to agree with the underwhelmed statement. My first impression is basicaly what a PITA. But I guess you get what you pay for.
