Hey SW Forums,

My company is rocking 2018 SP05, and we're looking to switch to 2020 now that SP01 is out. We also use PDM. Can we update our SolidWorks to 2020 SP01 (Using Help > Check for Updates), or will that cause compatibility issues with PDM?

I'm pretty sure it will cause issue and that we would need to upgrade the PDM version along with SolidWorks. That's fine, I think that happens within the installation manager, but then won't our installs not match the PDM server installation version? Would we have to update the server installation?

I'm reaching out to our VAR, but if you guys could help give me a basic understanding of how the process works, that would be wonderful. Not looking for a step-by-step here, just a top-level understanding of how things are interconnected.

We had an IT guru in the past with specialized knowledge on this, but due to personnel changes within the company, we don't have that person anymore and I'm getting squeezed into this pseudo-IT role.

Thank you.
