Instead of having the BOM created from the full assembly view I would like to have it based on only the detailed view. Haven't found any tutorials or tips so far as to how to do this.
I don't think you can. You may need to insert a bom of the whole Assembly, then hide the rows of the components that aren't shown in the detail view. Another option would be to set the option in the Properties of the other components to now show in the BOM.
Daniel Aspenson - As Glenn Schroeder mentioned, the answer is no, however you can always create a Configuration in the Assembly and suppress all the components not needed, then you can use the detail view to create a BOM and only have those parts showing.
John has a good answer there. I would try to use the Isolate command, depending on how big the assembly is and then in a new configuration suppress all the hidden parts.
We use both John and Glenn's answers and it works well.
We use the configuration method to control the BOM and also right click on a part in the assembly, component properties, and "exclude from BOM" that way you can still show a part but not have it called out on the BOM. I prefer to do this rather than deleting the parts out of the BOM, then if you ever have to replace your BOM its always correct
